History of the Berghof

For many years, the married couple Helma and Friedel Heeg ran the "Steinbachtal" restaurant in Steinbach behind the sun. This is how the place was called for years in old maps. Today it has been a popular destination for hikers and excursionists from Hesse and Bavaria for decades.

On a south-facing slope high above the Steinbach valley, they opened the Berghof guesthouse and inn on 3 November 1962. Helma Heeg's cooking was already widely known and attracted guests to the house for many years.

In 1976, the guesthouse with 12 beds at that time was expanded to 24 beds by a hotel extension. Now there are a total of 8 double rooms and 8 single rooms in the Berghof.

Sports stars such as Fritz and Otmar Walter, the French Olympic skiing champion Marielle Goitschel, the singer Karel Gott and the actor Herbert Herrmann have stayed here.

After Helma Heeg passed away at the age of 53, she left the family-run hotel to her husband and two sons, Klaus and Michael. Both sons trained as chefs, and Klaus Heeg also attended the Steigenberger Hotel Management School in Bad Reichenhall. In 1983 he took over the business from his father and ran it with his wife Sigrid until his death in 2006. His two sons Christian and Andreas have been helping in the family business ever since.

Son Christian, also a trained chef, has worked in various renowned hotels such as the Arabella Sheraton in Frankfurt am Main, the Golfhotel Maximilian in Bad Grießbach, the Traube Tonbach in Baiersbronn and the Louis C. Jakob in Hamburg as well as various internships in well-known establishments in Bangkok, Paris and London.

Andreas successfully completed his vocational training as a hotel manager at the Steigenberger Frankfurter Hof in Frankfurt am Main. Immediately afterwards, he worked for Stedmans Catering Hospitality in Sydney (Australia) and the Golf and Country Club Dromoland Castle (Ireland). He then attended hotel management schools in Pegnitz and Heidelberg, graduating with distinction. The certified hotel business economist and certified financial economist (FH) still works actively in the family business today.

Sigrid Heeg, née Herteux, is a trained paralegal and met and fell in love with her husband Klaus at the Berghof. He taught her the art of cooking. Even after his death, she continues to run the family business with devotion and dedication.
